Our School

Dunning Foubert ES

We acknowledge that our learning is taking place on unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin Territory. We thank the Algonquin Nation for hosting us and recognize their enduring presence on this land.

Our School

Dunning-Foubert ES  opened in 1981 and expanded in 1985 to its present size. The school is named after two of the founding families of the Cumberland area; Dunning and Foubert.

Dunning-Foubert strives to provide an environment that meets the individual needs of students. The staff, students and parents work together to build a caring and productive learning community. Our academic programs provide opportunities for students to be independent thinkers, creative problem solvers and develop lifelong learning skills. We encourage students to gain experience in organizational and leadership activities and acquire the skills needed to achieve success in real life. Our school is accessible and includes accessible washroom facilities.

Our Students

We have an enrollment of approximately 400 students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. Many of our students walk to school and stay for lunch, enjoying their time together with those students who are bussed to and from school. We further offer and encourage involvement in ports, clubs and music activities during recess times. Dunning-Foubert graduating students typically go to Sir Wilfrid Laurier S.S. However, some apply and if accepted may move into the Arts program at Canterbury H.S. or the IB program at Colonel By S.S.

Our Staff

We have a dynamic teaching staff who have created an outstanding team to support the school community. Assessment and student performance are our major priorities, as we provide opportunities for excellence in personal and educational development. We have a dedicated Special Education team who believe in the strengths of our children while helping them face the challenges they may encounter.

Our support staff is involved and very visible in all capacities of the school. You will often see our chief custodian greeting students when they come to school. Our Educational Assistants can be found creating student bulletin boards with the aid of students. Our Early Childhood Educators and office staff are readily visible and welcoming.

Our Community

Dunning-Foubert E.S. students benefit from many community partnerships. We welcome members of the community into our school as volunteers. They assist the school in numerous ways, including ' co-op' students from area high schools. student teachers from a variety of universities and child and youth workers from Algonquin college. The school raises money for several organizations such as UNICEF, the Heart and Stroke Foundation the Terry Fox Run, the Education Foundation, The Food Bank and CHEO.

We continue to benefit from the talents and experiences that come from our parents and community. The School Advisory Council (SAC) sponsors an annual "Craft Fair" which offers the community an opportunity to buy a variety of items. The parents also sponsor a Fall and Spring Dance to support family involvement and 'fun'. The variety of both engaging and creative initiatives ensures lots of community involvement and participation. We have access to a local library, an adjacent park with a skating rink, tennis courts and playing fields, all of which further enrich our curriculum. We have both a recreation complex, a skating rink and pool that students have available for programming.

Teacher and parent initiatives have provided the students opportunities to showcase their many talents in the community through school plays, musicals and concerts by the Jazz and Concerts Bands. We participate in the Capital Region Musicfest, a "Massed Band" held at sir Wilfrid Laurier High School and travel to Toronto for performances at Canada's Wonderland.
