Measures of Student Achievement and Success
Our Primary English/core French students are regularly assessed in reading using a PM Benchmarks' level program which identifies the instructional level of students as well as identifying areas for further development. Our junior and intermediate students are similarly assessed using a program called CASI (Comprehension, Attitude, Strategies, Interests). Students in the Early French Immersion program are regularly assessed in reading using the GB+ system. Our students fill out an interest survey of multiple intelligence to help determine their dominant learning styles, i.e. visual, auditory, kinesthetic (hands on) etc. Our students also participate in provincial testing in Grade 3 and 6. The 2011 – 2012 results, as well as 5-year trends, are included further on in this profile. We have also participated in the TTFM (Tell Them For Me) student survey to support greater understanding of student concern and allowing opportunities for 'student voice'.
School Improvement Plans and Initiatives
School Improvement Plans allow our staff to focus on obtaining a better understanding of our teaching and learning. This is done annually by Reflecting on our student achievement by working in teaching teams to examine student profiles and assessments. We then create a plan to support those areas of learning that we believe will support achievement. In the past our School Improvement Plans have included Proportional Reasoning, Inferences, Inquiry and Creative Thinking.
At Dunning-Foubert, students regularly participate in initiatives to support others. Past initiatives include raising money for UNICEF, The Snowsuit Fund, The Education Foundation, The Terry Fox Run, The Food Bank and Jump Rope for Heart. In addition, individual classes often collect canned goods or gently used snowsuits for other worthwhile causes.
Dunning-Foubert is also participating in a number of programs and studies that encourage students to make healthy choices in the area of nutrition, physical activity, and making safe choices when playing a participating in sports. Our school is continually examining ways to improve student success and the quality of educational experiences. In addition to an ongoing emphasis on the Arts and use of Technology, we have several committees working on various initiatives. Each of the Primary, Junior and Intermediate divisions are represented on the committees. Parents are welcome to be a part of these groups.
